Uncle Luke Slams Drake, Calls Him Soft After Filing Legal Petitions Against UMG And Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar’s goal of ousting Drake from Hip Hop and Black culture is seemingly working after reports came out that the Canadian superstar filed multiple petitions against him and Universal Music Group.
The “Hotline Bling” crooner has been facing immense backlash from users on the app formerly known as Twitter and Instagram, while also being scolded by members of the media, including Elliott Wilson, Jalen Rose, DJ Hed, Joe Budden and many others. Recently, Southern rap legend Uncle Luke shared a video expounding on his thoughts about the OVO head honcho’s recent legal actions.
In the clip, he shared, “I like Drake music, I don’t like what he got going on right now but I like his music. Some things you don’t talk about. You don’t talk about payola, you don’t talk about buying live streams and you don’t sue after you got dissed, and you done did some dissing.”
He later went on to share the differences between his past beefs and the current on going on between Drake and Lamar. He also stated that the new generation of artists are soft while clarifying that he is an OG in the space. One user responded, “Did Biggie sue Tupac? Did Kim sue Foxy? Did Nas sue JAY-Z? Did Ja Rule sue 50 Cent? Hell did Megan Thee Stallion sue Nicki Minaj? Drake is truly a cosplaying rapper who benefited from the culture for years and now is acting like a child who lost a game that he initiated.”
Budden went as far as calling the rapper a “piece of s**t,” as he believes that what is happening to him now is karma for the negative things he has done to other people in the industry over the years. Recently, Drake filed a pre-action petition that claimed Universal Music Group and Spotify were involved in inflating the track’s streaming numbers. Shortly after, his legal team filed a second pre-action petition against UMG for distributing Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” knowing it had lyrics that “falsely” accused him of being a “pedophile.”
UMG responded back stating that, “The suggestion that UMG would do anything to undermine any of its artists is offensive and untrue. We employ the highest ethical practices in our marketing and promotional campaigns. No amount of contrived and absurd legal arguments in this pre-action submission can mask the fact that fans choose the music they want to hear.”
Juice WRLD’s Management Says Over 1,000 Of His Songs Leaked Before ‘The Party Never Ends’: “It Became Very Distasteful”
Juice WRLD’s final posthumous album, The Party Never Ends, finally has a release date: Nov. 29. The project will hit streaming services with lead single “AGATS2 (Insecure)” featuring Nicki Minaj, as well as “Misfits” and the Offset-assisted “Celebrate.”
Ahead of the LP, the Chicago artist’s managers, Peter “Pete” Jideonwo and Lil Bibby, spoke with Variety about the difficult road of getting there, especially with all of the leaks. Legends Never Die and Fighting Demons faced similar roadblocks, though many of the unauthorized releases winded up making the final cut.
“The stock of his music became exceedingly high,” Jideonwo told the publication, estimating that over 800 songs hit the internet without Grade A Productions’ permission. Lil Bibby, on the other hand, argued that the number was more than 1,000.
“The real problem became the integrity of the producers and the studios and friends and people that had access to [the music],” they said. “It became very distasteful.”
The official tracklist is expected to arrive at a later date, likely to avoid the aforementioned issues that Juice WRLD’s team had with previous albums. “AGATS2 (Insecure),” short for “All Girls Are the Same 2,” came out on Nov. 15.
Regarding the collaboration, Minaj said, “We are grateful and honored. This song is immaculate. So excited to share this with all of you. Long live Juice WRLD.” She went on to add, “Your talent, aura, legacy, technique, sound and ability to create melodies and cadences on the perfect beat to match your rare, rich, raw and dynamic voice will forever be unmatched. I love you so much. We miss you so much.”
On Nov. 30, a day after The Party Never Ends launches, fans will have the chance to partake in the fourth and final Juice WRLD Day. Special guests are also set to appear at the event, which will take place at Chicago’s United Center.
Nicki Minaj Teases New Single That’s So Good She “Can’t Put [It] Into Words”
Nicki Minaj is dropping new music on Friday (Nov. 15), she revealed via X on Wednesday (Nov. 13). The “Everybody” artist claimed the forthcoming record, which has no title or artwork at the time of reporting, is something “every single Barb will love” alongside a countdown.
“Can’t stop listening to it. [It] does something to my psyche in the best way possible. [It] puts you in a zone that you wanna stay in,” Minaj teased during a Q&A with fans on the social media platform. She further detailed, “It’s the best music. It’s the kind of music you can’t put into words.”
In terms of what listeners can expect sonically, the Queens rapper described it as a combination of Pink Friday and Beam Me Up Scotty, the latter of which made its way to DSPs some years ago with some additional tracks.
Minaj also confirmed the forthcoming single would not be tied to Pink Friday 2 (The Hiatus), slated to hit streaming services on Dec. 13. The project was announced to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the original album, which housed fan favorites like “FTCU,” “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” and “Big Difference,” to name a few.
The musician previously mentioned that the aforementioned effort would mark the “final deluxe,” having already put out Gag City Deluxe and Gag City PLUTO Edition versions of the body of work. Though she hasn’t provided many details, it’s likely listeners can expect one to two new records or even more.
In September, Minaj claimed that adding five to seven songs felt “a little sloppy.” She told her followers, “After much thought, I want to be for certain that I am being intentional about every single decision being made around both PF2 and [Pink Friday 3].” However, it’s still up in the air whether the previously teased “Mamita” and the tentative “Anxiety” will make their way to the deluxe or her later LP.
